A damaged or leaking roof can cause your energy costs to increase as heated or cooled air will escape through these gaps.

And this will make it very difficult to maintain a consistent temperature inside the building even if the rest of the building envelope is well insulated. And this will cause the HVAC system to work extra hard using up a lot of energy. Sometimes you can easily notice that the roof is not in the best condition. You may see the roof sagging or it can also look uneven. This can be due to structural damage and this will create a safety hazard for anybody walking on the roof.
